The purpose of this study was to assess a vaccine that may prevent infection with the wart virus (HPV) in women and men. This very common virus is associated with genital warts and cancer of the cervix
Participants were healthy woman who were:
- 16 to 23 years of age
- not pregnant
- only had 0-4 male or female sexual partners
- had never had an abnormal pap test or genital warts
Objectives of study:
The trial lasted for 7 months. Eligible women were given a comprehensive medical examination including a pap test, blood test and pregnancy test.
The vaccine was given 3 times in the 7 months. Participants were then followed very carefully for 7 months to see if there was any reaction to the vaccine.
