Women age over 50 years who were at least 3 years post menopausal and experiencing vaginal dryness, soreness, itching, pain or bleeding during sex were asked to participate in this study. Participants need to have stopped HRT at least 2 months before joining the trial. The purpose of this study was to find out if a new treatment could improve these symptoms.

Objectives of study:

Participation was for 18 weeks, with 6 visits to the clinic. Women were randomly assigned ("toss of a coin") to 1 of 3 treatment groups and either 1 of 2 different doses of the treatment or placebo.

During the course of the study participants received comprehensive medical and gynaecological check ups including blood tests, pap smears, ECG (recording of the heart beat) as well as a mammogram and bone mineral density test for osteoporosis.
