The human papillomavirus (HPV) is the most common viral sexually transmitted infection. The aim of this study was to measure what types of HPV currently infect both Australian Indigenous and non-Indigenous women. In order to ensure that current vaccinations will be effective.

Women attending for routine pap smears were offered HPV testing at the time of their pap smear. The participation of the FPNSW Dubbo Clinic in the study resulted in an increase in the number of Indigenous women attending for pap testing.
